- Doll Taylor—Grand Marshal, July, 2009

- I want to tell you about Doll Taylor, she
is OUR PERSON
of the year in our Glendale Olivet Presbyterian church. I will begin
by telling you she joined our church in 1933.
The church was not in the same location it is today as the original building
burned and the little charming white
church we know today is the replacement. I have heard the church is
over 100 years old.
I asked Doll if I could write about her and she graciously
shared some of her life story with me. She has been very active in our
church, filling many different spots. She has sung in the choir and
still does, is a Sunday School leader and has been for many years, served as
a deacon, an elder, was very active in our after school Wed program for 4
years and has always helped with VBS. When we compiled a cookbook for
the church she supplied many wonderful pictures and recipes. She
excels at helping with kids and has a wealth of knowledge and songs to teach
them and lots of fun games also.
She worked as secretary for our school for 32 years. She was an EMT
since l972 and worked on the ambulance for 27 years. She has served on
a variety of boards locally including the ambulance and senior center
boards.
Her most recent duty was the grand marshal of our 4th of July parade.
It was very gratifying to her to hear so many adults and children chanting
Hi Doll all along the parade route. She was resplendent with her red
and white striped umbrella which included a blue field of stars.
Jim Allen, who is also a longstanding, upstanding member of our church drove
his 1955 red and white Chevrolet, what a sweet ride. The picture will
show you what a fine ride and what fine riders and our entire church and
town are so very proud of them. Little towns are such patriotic towns,
I am not sure about larger cities but this town is very proud of our country
and our patriotism knows no bounds.
Doll has accomplished so much in her life while she was busy raising a
daughter and a son, her daughter Julie and husband Greg have a family of 2
kids and some adorable grandchildren. Son, Larry and wife Karen have 2
sons and 2 adorable darling grandkids. Doll has always been so active
in her family with all sorts of outdoor sports, swimming, baseball, fishing
etc. What a great example for all of us, we are honored to follow her
footsteps always.
Thank you for always serving with a heart like Jesus in your caring, loving
way.
