International Peacemaker comes to Cascades Presbytery, Oct. 2-8
Rev. Luis Perez Alanoca, from La Paz, Bolivia, will be itinerating within the bounds of Cascades Presbytery October 2-8.  He comes as an International Peacemaker representing the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program, PCUSA. Information

Four Bolivian mission speakers visit Cascades Presbytery this fall
Four speakers will be in Cascades Presbytery this fall to share information about our connection to mission in Bolivia.  Each is available to preach, speak to congregational events, present at committee meetings, and share with community groups. Information

Peacemaking Offering materials now available
Each congregation was recently mailed a packet of sample materials for the Peacemaking Offering, which is usually received on World Communion Sunday, this year October 3.  It is time to review the materials, order the items you desire and begin to plan how to promote this offering to your congregation.  Questions? Carol J. Dempsey leads Lectionary Retreat, Sept. 20-21
The annual Lectionary Retreat for those who preach or teach during the year is at the Shalom Prayer Center in Mt. Angel.  Information

Missional Church Conference in Salem, Sept. 25
The Missional Church Conference featuring The Rev. Dr. Clark Cowden will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Salem on Saturday, September 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Cost for the event is just $15 and includes lunch.  Pastors, church leadership and members are encouraged to attend. Pastoral Care featured at Cascades Lay Institute, Oct. 15-16
The Rev. Barry Heath is instructor of “Pastoral Care: First Heal the Healers” Friday and Saturday, October 15-16 at Westminster, Eugene.  The subject will be spiritual pain. Flyer

Presbytery mission trip to Gulf Coast, Oct. 16-22
Five years after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, there is still much work to be done to rebuild homes, lives and communities impacted by disasters in South Louisiana. We will be traveling to New Orleans and staying at Olive Tree, formally Eastminister Presbyterian Church, now the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance site.  Cost of the trip will include approximately $150 for food and lodging and $80 for van rental.  Contact Greg Anable, ganable@comcast.net if you would you like to be part of the group from Cascades.

Middle School Mania, Oct. 22-24   
‘Sanctuary 2010” is the Middle School Mania retreat at Canyonview Camp on Oct. 22-24.  Plan to be there for great food, games, fun, worship and a dynamic speaker!  Registrations due before Oct. 15.  Brochure

Earth Care: Inspiration, Prayer and Action, Nov. 6
On Sat., Nov. 6, Cascades congregations’ earth care teams will join for fellowship, worship, and workshops.  Keynote speaker is the Rev. Sam Hamilton-Poore.  Locally-grown lunch included.  Westminster, Salem. Information

Limited tuition scholarships for ‘Healthy Congregations,’ Nov. 18-19
Some tuition scholarships are available to those who register early for the “Healthy Congregations” program for pastors Thursday and Friday, November 18-19 from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Shalom Prayer Center in Mt. Angel. The Rev. Dr. Robert Conover, Mission Presbyter and Stated Clerk of the Presbytery of the Redwoods will present the program. This is a great opportunity for Continuing Education without having to travel outside the Presbytery. Cascades Presbytery Youth Assembly (CPYA) date set, Nov. 19-21

Menucha Retreat and Conference Center events
Paul S. Wright Lecture Series, September 1-3, 2010  Dr. Rodger Nishioka on contemporary issues for ministry in the 21st century. 
Cancer Retreat for Women, October 25-27, 2010  Susan Hedlund will facilitate this deeply moving retreat, generating support and encouragement. 
Fall Silent Retreat, Nov. 15-18 includes Centering Prayer, solitude and journal writing. Menucha programs.

Please send your email address and emails for church staff, officers and any church members to carolee@cascadespresbytery.org so you won’t miss an issue of OMNIBUS. Those who do not have email may request a copy mailed to them or find copies which are mailed to all churches. Media Center features resource on safety in worship centers
From your free lending library: Improving Safety at Your Worship Center.  This is a set of four DVDs (or VHS tapes; please specify which you prefer). Each one is approximately 15 min. long. Tapes are on auto, van and bus trip; or fire safety; preventing workplace injuries, or identifying risks and evaluating safety procedures within the worship center.
