Mary’s Musings—Jan. 22, 2012
Today was such an inspirational day for all of us. Suzie’s playing is just divine and the choir sang today and we all realized how much we miss them when they don’t sing. “Let the word of Christ dwell in You” is a hymn we all claim for our own growth in Jesus. Our choir is growing and we have 5 new singers and what a beautiful blend of voices; we welcome all of you and appreciate you so much.

Buck’s sermon was spot on and he gave such an example of how we all act and I want to recount some of it now. A woman named Gladys (insert your own name as it will probably fit) had seen a wondrous thing and called her pastor to come so she could share this news but first she had to clean her house, have her hair done and we all know such lists. When the pastor arrived her fantastic news was she had seen Jesus and he was transfigured in white and she knew from that vision there were plans for her Christian growth and that is what she needed to discuss with her pastor.

She asked, “What can I do for our church?” The pastor’s response was we have an opening in Sunday School and a need for teachers. She replied in a louder than necessary voice, “I just can’t work with children, I would be sick if I had to wipe their noses, I can’t get down on the floor and on and on. The pastor responded in all the ways he could think of what she could do and each time she had a list of excuses. Finally, the pastor suggested next time Jesus appeared to her perhaps she should ask him. We all laugh but inwardly we are squirming, have we been asked to do something and in our humanly willful manner respond with every excuse we can muster.

As I said, we have much to reflect upon on this specific sermon. We gathered downstairs to an absolute feast of soups and corn bread. What a blessing everyone bestows on all of us with their hot soups, salads, giant marshmallows, whatever anyone brings is graciously devoured (not sure those two words fit but they are descriptive.

Don’t forget on Jan 28, 2012 please come to our First Women’s Ministry meeting and bring a friend please. We will have a soup and bread brunch and we have a beautiful program planned, should last a bit over or under an hour. Also Jan. 29, 20l2 after church, Congregational meeting, Cecilia has placed a sign up sheet downstairs so you may tell everyone what you are bringing. It’s a very important church meeting and should not be missed, if you are new to our church and not yet a member, you will learn how the church operates etc.
