Truth for Today
3 John 1:14 14 but I hope to see you shortly, and we shall speak face to face.
Back when “texting” first hit the scene I saw a commercial that was funny yet sobering. A family was getting ready for supper. When the Mom had supper ready she “texts” everyone in her family that dinner was ready. Her only means to communicating seemed to be the “text message” she sent.
Technology is robbing us of the joy of face to face meetings in homes, businesses, churches and friendships. Family and friends don’t get together like they used to because they text each other 24/7. Technology is causing us to become so “impersonal”.
John had many things to say to Gaius but he didn’t want to say them in a letter. He wanted to speak to him in person about those important things that mattered. He wanted to meet with him “face to face”.
Let’s not lose the importance meeting together. Don’t allow the ability to watch your favorite preacher on computer everyday to rob you of the joy of worshiping with fellow believers each time you have opportunity. There are some studies that indicate that more “christians” are finding their source of inspiration from searching for religious sites on the World Wide Web than are gathering in God’s house for worship, praise, preaching, giving, serving and fellowship.
Nothing is more important than that “face to face” time we have each Sunday, Wednesday and every opportunity to gather together. Even as I type this devotion to send to my “Word for Today” folks…I would discontinue this devotion in a heart beat if it kept folks from attending worship with fellow believers. This is intended to enrich those times with fellow believers. One man once told me, “I am taking a break from church but I am watching Joel Olsteen every Sunday and that’s enough for me.” SORRY… no preacher on television can every replace meeting with God’s people face to face and heart to heart.
So let’s look forward to that “face to face” gathering with God’s people this Sunday and the following Wednesday!!!
Father, how I look forward to Sunday when I can shake hands, hug necks, sing, worship, praise and honor YOU with my fellow believers. May we never take for granted those “face to face” meetings with our fellow believers. May we strengthen each other with stronger fellowship. May we honor YOU as we meet together every time we have opportunity…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
