Truth for Today
1 Corinthian 16:17 I am glad about the coming of Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus, for what was lacking on your part they supplied.
I have heard dozens and dozens of retirement and change of command speeches over 17 years. In fact I have the script memorized. Almost always at the beginning of those speeches there would be a long list of people to whom the speaker was grateful and rightly so because we could not accomplish anything in life without the love, support and encouragement of others.
At the close of his letter to Corinth Paul shares his gratitude. He specifically mentions by name…Stephanas, Fortunatus and Achaicus. He was grateful for what they supplied in his work of ministry. I am convinced that when this letter was read to the church there was a sense of gratitude about all that these servants had provided Paul.
I can’t help but think back over the years and the names of people who were there for me just flow through my mind. Their love, support, encouragement, teaching, mentoring and friendship means the world to me. Their names and faces are in my personal “hall of fame” and I am so very grateful for ALL they have done. Perhaps one day in glory they will experience the truest sense of joy for their service to Christ our Savior.
I pray that your personal “hall of fame” is filled with people who touched your life in a powerful and real way.
Father, as we walk, worship and work in this life may we seek to support and encourage fellow workers in the task of ministry. Thank You for each and every one who has been a vessel of strength and support for me. Bless them with power, strength and perserverance…In Jesus Name…Amen!!!
