Truth for Today
Colossians 4:6 6 Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.
The writer of Proverbs says, “In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, But he who restrains his lips is wise.” Paul echoes those words with a slightly different twist, “Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you know how you ought to answer each one.”
I used a word processor once that had a feature that counted the words you were typing as you typed. It was a great feature especially if you needed to write a certain number of words.
We need to measure our speech each day of our life. Too often we can brutally and uselessly use words. You have heard, “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.” Well, “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can WOUND deeply.”
May our WORDS be seasoned with grace by striving to guard our speech from anything negative?
May our WORDS be seasoned with grace by speaking to one in love, respect and dignity…even if we are in disagreement?
At the end of the day our words have a way of piling up…where did they go…who did they help…where did they land…who did they wound?
Paul’s word to us… “Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.”
Father, fill me with wisdom for this day to season my speech with grace and to speak right with everyone I talk to this day. Grant me wisdom to say the right thing…the will to do the right thing…and grace to display Your power…In Jesus Name…Amen!!!
