THE WORD FOR TODAY
2 Samuel 3-5
2 Samuel 3-5
2 Samuel 5:3 3 Therefore all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the LORD. And they anointed David king over Israel.
Our nation spent years locked in a Civil War. Brother against brother was the norm not the exception. During that time we were a nation that was divided between the North and the South. There was no room for neutrality.
We aren’t the first nation that suffered such division.
Israel and Judah was divided. David ruled over Judah and Saul ruled over Israel until his death. That’s when war busted loose. It was culminated with the assassination of Mephibosheth. The death of Jonathan’s son cut to David’s heart. All Israelsaw his grief and knew that he had nothing to do with the killing of Mephibosheth. They came to David, made a covenant and anointed David king over Israel. A kingdom divided was now a kingdom united…behind a man after God’s own heart.
While we may not be at war with each other we are a nation very much divided by political, religious, moral and racial lines. We know we are divided when the man speaking for the president mocks a very popular figure by writing his “to do” list on his hands…mocking another politician. That is just one of hundreds of actions that divide people across this nation.
It’s time to pray for America…may it begin in our own heart.
Father, we are nation divided by ideas…we are nation divided by motives…we are a nation divided that needs YOUR healing…we call YOU to begin to heal our land and we repent of our sins and return to YOU…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
