THE WORD FOR TODAY
Judges 6:31-32 31 But Joash said to all who stood against him, “Would you plead for Baal? Would you save him? Let the one who would plead for him be put to death by morning! If he is a god, let him plead for himself, because his altar has been torn down!” 32 Therefore on that day he called him Jerubbaal,[j] saying, “Let Baal plead against him, because he has torn down his altar.”
The headline read, “Altar of Baal Torn Down by Local Vandal.” The story continues, “City officials are investigating the overnight destruction of the altar of Baal. Investigators report that Joash, the father of Gideon, the alleged vandal stated, ““Would you plead for Baal? Would you save him? Let the one who would plead for him be put to death by morning! If he is a god, let him plead for himself, because his altar has been torn down!” The reporter adds, “This reporter is still waiting on a statement from Baal.”
That’s the way it is with false gods…they can’t speak…they can’t defend themselves. They have only their minions to stand up for them but in the face of the LORD God Almighty they are put down.
We serve a God who lives…HE is not dead. Some years ago someone wrote on a wall, “God is dead.” Signed Nietzsche. Behind those words were written in larger letters, “Nietzche is dead…GOD!” Our God who lives isn’t silent because even the very heavens declare HIS glory.
Lord, You are the powerful One and we praise YOUR Holy and Majestic Name…Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
