THE WORD FOR TODAY
Judges 10:10 10 And the children of Israel cried out to the LORD, saying, “We have sinned against You, because we have both forsaken our God and served the Baals!”
How do you say, “I’m sorry”? Honestly most people only say the words, “I’m sorry”, when they are caught in the act of doing something wrong. Just think about it…how many people walk into the police station and say, “Listen, I am just feeling bad today because I have been consistently driving 80 miles an hour would you please write me a ticket?” No one…we only say, “I’m sorry” when we are caught.
Israel was caught in their sin. Punishment was coming. They said they were sorry for their sin. And you know…they did it right. Listen to them, ““We have sinned against You, because we have both forsaken our God and served the Baals!” Now they had a LOT more confessing to do mind you but they were on the right track for once.
Their confession strikes me in its clear admission, “We have sinned against You.” Being clear in our admission of guilt is important to confession. Our sin is against God. We violate HIS commands for our life.
Their confession is strikes me in its specific guilt, “We have forsaken our God and served the Baals!” They named their sin. They didn’t mince words but got very specific.
You know we need to be clear and specific when it comes to our sin. Simply speaking empty words of “I’m sorry” isn’t enough. In brokenness because of our rebellion we must tell the Father in agreement with Him what we have done wrong.
O God search my heart and show me the sin I have committed against You…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
