THE WORD FOR TODAY
2 Kings 4-6
2 Kings 4-6
2 Kings 5:1-3 1 Now Naaman, commander of the army of the king of Syria, was a great and honorable man in the eyes of his master, because by him the LORD had given victory to Syria. He was also a mighty man of valor, but a leper. 2 And the Syrians had gone out on raids, and had brought back captive a young girl from the land of Israel. She waited on Naaman’s wife. 3 Then she said to her mistress, “If only my master were with the prophet who is in Samaria! For he would heal him of his leprosy.”
Not long after I moved to Sumner, MS my left should froze on me. I couldn’t raise my left arm more than half of its normal rotation not even above my head. During that time I had at least three people tell me a doctor that could fix my shoulder.
Naaman, a great and honorable man, a mighty man of valor had a problem: he was a leper. One day he got news from a young girl from the land of Israel, “If only my master were with prophet who is in Samaria! For he would heal him of his leprosy.” Immediately hope sprang to life for Naaman. Elisha would tell Naaman to wash in the Jordan seven times and he would be healed. After some resistance he did and was healed.
I am struck with this young girl who pointed Naaman in the right direction. She said, “If only my master were with the prophet…” She knew something that Christians today are so easy to forget…she knew that real hope is found in God.
We meet people who are struggling…hurting…torn…beaten…crying…grieving and more and yet we do or say nothing. We know that Jesus is concerned with their pain and far too often we fail to even simply PRAY for them. The most powerful thing we can do is PRAY for those who are hurting…yet…silence is our response.
Let’s be silent no more. So here is what I would like to do. If you have someone that needs prayer just send me an email with their Name and their Need. What I will do is put that list of names and needs before you each day I send this devotion.
Let’s be silent no more when those we love are hurting.
Lord, I pray for the needs of every man and woman who receives this devotion. I pray that YOU will be strong and powerful in their life and bring help for their hurt and pain…in Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
