THE WORD FOR TODAY
2 Kings 13-15
2 Kings 13-15
2 Kings 13:23 23 But the LORD was gracious to them, had compassion on them, and regarded them, because of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not yet destroy them or cast them from His presence.
Casting Crowns, one of my favorite Christian groups has a song that touches my heart every time I hear it, “Who Am I”. The lyrics go, “Who am I, that the Lord of all the earth, would care to know my name would care to feel my hurt…” Who are we that the LORD of all the earth would be gracious to us? Let’s look to Israel as an example. I am captured the words, “But the LORD was gracious to them (Israel)”. This is an amazing statement in light of all of the evil that Israel had done…that God would be gracious to them.
Who were they that even with all the bad in their life…God would be gracious to them? Who are we…who am I that with all the bad I and we do that HE would be merciful to us?
In simple terms…we are HIS people. He had made a covenant of love and mercy and grace with us. He did so with Israel. He does not forget HIS covenant. He does not cast aside His promises to HIS people. He loves us even when we are unlovely and unlovable.
