THE WORD FOR TODAY
1 Samuel 16-18
1 SAMUEL 16-18
1 Samuel 16:14 14 But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and a distressing spirit from the LORD troubled him.
Saul’s disobedience was frightening. He knew he had really messed things up with God but he refused to repent. In fact scripture records, “The Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and a distressing spirit from the LORD troubled him.” For comfort he was willing to hear the music of a harp rather than feel the power of a restored relationship with God. Saul’s stubborn, unrepentant attitude was his downfall.
Our disobedience is frightening. God disciplines us with His Spirit but do we listen? When God shows the sin in our life are we quick to repent…quick to turn to HIM in obedience? We can learn much from the anguish of Saul.
I believe God still uses “a distressing spirit” to get our attention. It’s called conviction of the Holy Spirit. When we feel that conviction of God’s Spirit then we should immediately confess our sin and repent on the spot. That is how we experience HIS cleansing power in our life. We do not have to live in disobedience to HIM…the price is tooooooooooo HIIIIIIGGGGGHHHH.
Father, send Your Holy Spirit and convict us when we do wrong…examine our heart with YOUR power Spirit…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
