THE WORD FOR TODAY
1 Samuel 19-21
1 SAMUEL 19-21
1 Samuel 20:31 31 For as long as the son of Jesse lives on the earth, you shall not be established, nor your kingdom. Now therefore, send and bring him to me, for he shall surely die.”
I remember watching a movie about a guy who bought popularity. He paid the price and pretty soon everyone in school “liked” him. But he was to discover…popularity had a high price.
David was not a popular guy. He hadn’t really done anything to deserve the king’s hatred. He had risked his life again and again for the people of Israel. But now he is on the most wanted list; constantly on the run for his life. But he wasn’t alone; he had his friend, the son of Saul, Jonathan.
This was a costly friendship for Jonathan. Saul said to Jonathan, “For as long as the son of Jesse live on the earth, you shall not be established, nor your kingdom.” Still Jonathan refused to betray his friend. Jonathan gave up his inheritance for his friendship with David.
Jesus gave up all the right and privileges of deity to purchase our salvation. He emptied Himself taking the form of a servant. The King of kings put a towel around his waist and washed His disciple’s feet. The Lord laid down His life for His friends. O what a friend we have in Jesus.
Father, thank YOU for Jesus my friend and my Redeemer…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
