THE WORD FOR TODAY
1 Samuel 22-24
1 Samuel 22-24
1 Samuel 24:9 9 And David said to Saul: “Why do you listen to the words of men who say, ‘Indeed David seeks your harm’?
David could have killed Saul. He had him in a vulnerable position. He could have put the sword to him. But he would not raise his hand against the Lord’s anointed. Instead, David steps from the shadows of the cave and speaks. Saul’s heart and feet froze at the same moment. His heart was beating in his mouth. He could feel death crawling toward him. But David asked, “Why do you listen to the words of men who say, ‘Indeed David seeks your harm’”? Saul just didn’t get it. David would not raise his hand against God’s anointed.
Why did Saul listen to men whose motives were wrong? Why did he listen to angry, bitter people like himself? David’s words cut to his soul, “Why do you listen to the words of men…”
There is an obvious lesson. There are people we SHOULD NEVER LISTEN TO. We shouldn’t listen to people who are not in love with God. We shouldn’t listen to people who don’t show the fruit of the spirit. We ought not to listen to those stir up trouble and dissension in God’s church.
We must be careful who we listen to!!!
Father, may we only listen to YOUR Holy Spirit’s guidance in our life…grant us a spirit of discernment and as we hear many voices in our world…help us to tune in only to those voices that come from YOU…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
