THE WORD FOR TODAY
1 Samuel 25-27
1 Samuel 25-27
1 Samuel 25:17 17 Now therefore, know and consider what you will do, for harm is determined against our master and against all his household. For he is such a scoundrel that one cannot speak to him.”
Some of you remember when America was captivated by J. R. Ewing. He was a shrewd scoundrel of an oil man that would walk over other to make a buck. America spent an entire off season of TV wondering, “Who Shot J. R.?” It made for good TV but it showed that we have “real scoundrels” in this world.
Nabal was a scoundrel. He refused to offer assistance to King David choosing rather to insult him instead of offering his hand in help to David and his men. A servant came to Abigail, Nabal wife, a woman of beauty and honor with the news of impending doom for her household because of Nabal and his stubbornness. She of course took quick action in offering hospitality to David and his men.
It’s not hard to do the right thing. It’s not hard to help people when you know you need to extend a helping hand. It’s not hard to listen to people and their needs. It’s not hard to be a man of honor and integrity when you are in love with God first. Abigail saved her household from disaster by paying the kindness that her husband should have paid.
The Bible says, “To him who knows the good he ought to do and doesn’t do it to him it is sin.” Let’s be a people who do the good that we know we ought to do because we love God and our neighbor.
Father, we love You and we pray that our life would show LOVE for YOU…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
