THE WORD FOR TODAY
1 Samuel 31
2 Samuel 1-2
1 Samuel 31 2 Samuel 1-2
2 Samuel 1:27 27 “How the mighty have fallen, And the weapons of war perished!”
Of the past 3400 years, humans have been entirely at peace for 268 of them, or just 8 percent of recorded history. Isn’t it a tragedy to consider that we have dealing with war some 92 percent of the time in recorded history?
David was grieving the death of Saul and his good Jonathan. He knew it was going to happen. It was just a matter of time before Saul would perish in battle. David said, “How the mighty have fallen, and the weapons of war perished.”
I can’t help but think of that day when ALL weapons of war will have perished. The new heavens and the new earth will be at peace. The lion and the lamb will walk in the same pasture. There will be no sadness because of weapons of war. That is a believer’s blessed and glorious hope.
Just consider for a moment the economic impact of our war against terrorism. The personal impact is even more devastating as fathers, mothers, husbands and wives have given their lives in service to our country. That alone should cause to yearn for that day when all weapons war will be no more.
O Lord hasten the day when peace will be our inheritance…when there will be no more sadness and no more sorrow…until that day may we be found faithful…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
