THE WORD FOR TODAY
2 Samuel 15-17
2 Samuel 15-17
2 Samuel 15:37 37 So Hushai, David’s friend, went into the city. And Absalom came into Jerusalem.
Loyalty is a fickle word. Toyota is going through a major battle with multiple recalls for all kinds of flaws in their product. They are even running television ads pleading with “loyal” customers to stand by them during this tough time.
David needed someone to stand by him during his run from Absalom, his rebellious son. Hushai, David’s friend had every intention of going on the run with David. But David needed his friend in a dangerous place to provide counsel to Absalom. So Hushai, David’s friend went into the city. And scripture records that Absalom came into Jersualem. Now David had a friend in the enemy’s camp.
Hushai’s loyalty to David is an inspiration to me. He inspires me to be loyal to a friend in trouble. How many of us know someone who has been abandoned because of a failure. It’s in failure that friendship is needed the most. Hushai inspires me to be a friend no matter the circumstances. Don’t you know that others who saw Hushai staying in Jerusalem with Absalom were perhaps critical of his seeming disloyalty to David? Crazy circumstances call for loyal friends. Hushai inspires me to be courageous as a friend. His loyalty to David could very well have cost him his life. It takes courage to remain a friend when the enemy seems to be winning.
Who needs your friendship today? How can God use YOU as friend to someone who is lonely and abandoned? A friend is a friend at all times.
Father, fill us with a spirit of wisdom and courage to be loyal friends this day…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
