Song of Solomon 5:8 8 I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, If you find my beloved, That you tell him I am lovesick!
Just over 33 years ago I waited at the front of Linn Baptist Church in Doddsville, MS for the most beautiful woman in my life…my wife Nancy. Since then we have spent many years apart from each other due to military service. I remember many letters where she shared how much she missed me. I remembered homecomings where Nancy wanted to share video’s of things the family had celebrated in my absence. I knew she had missed me and I really missed her. Thousands of military families endure this ritual every year.
The Shulamite was lovesick for her beloved. The level of intimacy in this passage is absolutely amazing. She said, “I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, If you find my beloved, That you tell him I am lovesick!” She wanted to communicate to her lover how much her heart yearned for him.
Does our spouse know how much they are loved? You know love is present when there is emptiness in the heart when you are apart.
It is so important to communicate our love for each other in marriage. A marriage thrives when LOVE is communicated in clear intelligible ways. We must never be like the husband who said, “I told my wife I loved her on our wedding day and that if anything changed I would let her know.” Love is to marriage what water is to a plant. A marriage will not survive without LOVE in its purest sacrificial form.
Insure the survival of your marriage…protect it from the pain that will surely come…just tell each other, “I LOVE YOU!” By the way do this everyday at every opportunity because tomorrow may be too late.
The greatest blessing you can bestow on your spouse is YOUR absolutely love and devotion.
Father, thank You for the wife of my youth…I love her so much…may I honor her all the days of our life together…In Jesus Name…AMEN!
