THE WORD FOR TODAY
Isaiah 34-36 (Click to read Today’s Word)
Isaiah 36:18-120 “18 Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, “The LORD will deliver us.” Has any one of the gods of the nations delivered its land from the hand of the king of Assyria? 19 Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? Indeed, have they delivered Samaria from my hand? 20 Who among all the gods of these lands have delivered their countries from my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem from my hand?’”
Ever since Joe Namath predicted the improbable New York Jets would win the Super Bowl sports has had its lion share of big men who back up size promises with a puny effort on the court and on the field…cause come game day…you got to play the game.
The Rabshakeh was the trash talking captain of the Assyrian team. He was probably really smart in the eyes of his boss, the king of Assyria. So he sent the Rabshakeh to intimidate the people of God with his charismatic and overpowering sense of self. He sums up his case with these words, “Who among all the gods of these lands have delivered their countries from my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem from my hand?” I can hear the BOOOOM of his threats as they echo off hearts filling quickly with fear.
Outsmarted, overmanned, under powered, inferior forces and even get this a LORD who wasn’t able to deliver HIS people…that was Rabshakeh’s case for the people of God to just give up…surrender and let Sennacherib have the land. Oh he must have sounded LOUD and INTIMIDATING and even a little bit frightening.
The enemy uses every tool in his war chest against. He uses problems that are bigger than we are. He leverages relationships that are of great value to us. The enemy even uses our secrets against us trying to convince that we aren’t worthy to serve God. The enemy is skilled at stealing, killing and destroying our life and the hope that is ours. But hear me…the enemy is a big mouthed LOSER.
Believe me the enemy is defeated…just tune in tomorrow for the rest of the story.
Father…greater are YOU in us that he that is in the world…Oh how we need YOU everyday of our life…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
