Proverbs 29:13 13 He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.
A couple of years ago, Santa Claus, (my wife), brought me a Fein Multi-Master Tool. You’ve seen advertisements for it on TV. Well it is all that and more. It is an amazing tool that can do so many and so varied kinds of tasks.
The wisdom writer tells us about a tool that is important to every believer…confession that brings mercy. He says, “He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.” Jesus brings this to fulfillment through His sacrificial death on the cross. We can confess, agree with God about our sin, and know that Jesus forgives and washes our sins away. We don’t have to live life burdened with the shame and guilt of sin…we have mercy ready to meet us and fill us with the joy of forgiveness.
We have inherited the desire to hide our sins from Adam and Eve. They hid from God after eating forbidden fruit.
We have inherited the mistake of excuses for our sins from Adam and Eve. Adam blamed Eve and Eve blamed the serpent. And we blame Adam and Eve…Hmmmmm.
We have inherited the curse of denial from Adam and Eve. We can’t deny that we sin against God. We can’t deny that we are guilty. We can’t deny that we try to hide our transgressions. What is under the rug will always show up.
Remember the wisdom for today, “He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.” Confess the failures to God. Forsake the failures and follow Jesus. Receive the mercy HE wants to pour out on your life.
Father, I can’t hide what I do from You…I can’t deny that I am sinner…I need Your mercy and Your grace in great abundance…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
