THE WORD FOR TODAY
Truth for Today
Matthew 26:14-16 14 Then one of the Twelve—the one called Judas Iscariot—went to the chief priests 15 and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?” So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver. 16 From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.
Believer’s must be willing to face anything for the sake of Christ.
Polycarp was Bishop of Smyrna. He faced incredible pressure to deny…to betray Christ. Polycarp is recorded as saying on the day of his death, "Eighty and six years I have served him, how then can I blaspheme my King and Savior? Bring forth what thou wilt." History records that they lit the fire that burned him to death as a martyr for Christ.
What a difference between two men. Judas Iscariot watched for an opportunity to hand Christ over to the authorities. Polycarp wouldn’t blaspheme his King and Savior. He said, “Bring forth what thou wilt.” WOW!
What would we say in the face of certain death because of our faith? Would we deny Christ? Would we turn and run? Would we stand strong?
Be ready. That day could come. A friend may challenge our faith. A foe may criticize. A day of hardship may come our way. May we be like Polycarp, “Bring forth what thou wilt.”
Believers must be willing to face anything for the cause of Christ!
Father grant us the strength to stand strong in the day of trial. May we take courage in the faith of those who have gone before us, especially Jesus our Savior…In Jesus Name…Amen!
