Truth for Today
Daniel 4:18 25 “And this is the inscription that was written: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. 26 This is the interpretation of each word. MENE: God has numbered your kingdom, and finished it; 27TEKEK: You have been weighed in the balances, and found wanting; 28 PERES: Your kingdom has been divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.”
Dreams can be a troubling experience. I watched a television program a few days ago about a guy trying to catch a tiger fish in the congo. That night I had a dream about weird fish with weird teeth. I know I am not the only one to have weird dreams. There are certainly some dreams I would not want to come true.
Our text reveals a King in distress because of a dream. Not of his counselors and soothsayers could interpret the dream. Then he discovered a young man named Daniel. Daniel, filled with the Spirit of God told Belshazzar the meaning of, “Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin. In short he told him, “God has numbered your kingdom and finished it. You have been weighed in the balances, and found wanting. Your kingdom has been divided and given to the Medes and Persians.”
You know our days have been numbered and there is a day they are finished. The Bible says, “It is appointed unto man once to die.” Hebrews 9:27 Jesus is our only hope in death.
You know we have been weighed in the balances and found wanting. Scripture declares, ‘For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23 That is why we need JESUS the only ONE who can save.
You know our kingdom has been divided and given to someone else. All our possessions and land and belonging will be divided among our heirs someday. We can’t take anything we have accumulated to the grave. But we can anticipate a wonderful mansion built in heaven for us. John 14:1-6
Belshazzar’s bad dream teaches us some good lessons. Let’s place our trust in Jesus because He is only ONE who can save. Let’s loosen our grip on things on this earth so that we can yearn more passionately for the riches of glory in heaven.
Father, You have numbered my days…You ave weighed my life…You have built a mansion for me in heaven…I thank You…In Jesus Name…AMEN!
