Truth for Today
Amos 1:2 And he said, “The Lord roars from Zion, and utters His voice from Jerusalem, the pastures of the shepherds mourn, and the top of Carmel withers.”
I am the oldest of four kids, two brothers and a sister. I am not sure why but my brothers and sister took great joy in getting me into trouble…hahahahhaa. Ask the oldest in any family and they will say Amen. I always knew when we were in big trouble. I would hear my Mom yell, “KIDS!, Don’t make me come in there.” Often that yell would be all it took…but at other times Mama came into the room and it wasn’t pleasant.
Amos said, “The Lord roars from Zion…” God was fed up with the behavior of His people and was about to come into the room. Through this book God states His case against His people and the injustice that was prevalent in the land. We must learn to listen to God’s roar and respond.
Respond with REPENTANCE. That need is in our world this very moment.
Respond with OPENNESS to change our behavior. We have to put away the old way that is sinful and put on the new way of grace and mercy.
Respond with ACTION. It’s not enough to talk about changing…we must take action. Michael Vick, the talented quarterback from Atlanta spoke about the need to change. I hope he discovers that true change from Christ and Christ alone.
Respond with RETURNING. Return to ways of trust and faith and confidence and mercy for all.
Our actions will clearly tell if we are serious about hearing God’s roar from heaven.
Break our stubbornness Father and forgive us in your wonderful grace. May we grow to be people of mercy and justice...IN JESUS NAME…AMEN!!!
