Truth for Today
Obadiah 15 “For the day of the Lord upon all the nations is near; As you have done, it shall be done to you; Your reprisal shall return upon your own head.”
I have test for you.
An apple tree bears what kind of fruit? An apple.
An orange tree bears what kind of fruit? An orange. Pretty simple right? Let’s do one more.
A fig tree bears what kind of fruit? Right, figs of course.
But one more, a Christian bears what kind of fruit? Think on this one a bit please.
Obadiah was warning God’s people about the fruit of their life. Injustice seemed to be everywhere. More harm was being done in the midst of God’s people than good. His word from God, “As you have done, it shall be done to you.”
Now that is scary…”As you have done, it shall be done to you.”
The Golden Rule is, “Do unto others and you would have them do unto you.” I know our world could be so much better if we treated each other and others with grace and dignity and righteousness. But sadly that is not the case. We can easily sit in the judgment seat and cast lofty glares at those who don’t seem to believe the way we do. We can talk about them around our water coolers, in our homes and sadly even in our pews as we whisper our sharp criticisms under our breath. We might even curse these people under our breath or out loud. I heard someone say the other day, “When we curse someone we are cursing God’s creation.”
These words should wake us up, “As you have done, it shall be done to you.”
Father, cause us to turn to you and learn how we can and should treat each other and others. May we learn to honor others with the honor we give to you. May we embrace that you are a God who cares about the needs of all people. May injustice never be found in our life...IN JESUS NAME…AMEN!!!
