Truth for Today
Habakkuk 3:17-18 Though the fig tree may not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines; thought the labor of the olive may fail, and the fields yield no food; though the flock may be cut off from the fold, and there be no herd in the stalls…yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
How many times in life does our love for God, our devotion to Him come with strings attached? How often do we serve God with one hand and hold the other one out waiting for Him to bless? Does our love and devotion for Him have strings attached to it?
Habakkuk teaches us about what I want to call, “No Strings” kind of love. He said, “Though the fig tree may not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines; though the labor of the olive may fail, and the fields yield no food; though the flock may be cut off from the fold, and there be no herd in the stalls…yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.” His love and devotion to God was not going to be tied to anything external.
Love isn’t love when a string is attached to it. Devotion isn’t devotion when something is expected or even demanded in return. Praise isn’t praise when we only do it for the good things in life.
Can we love God, devote our life to Him and praise Him without expecting something in return?
That question sort of leaves me speechless.
Father, I rejoice in you even though our days are marked with trouble…I rejoice in you even when the way is uncertain and unclear…I rejoice in your salvation because I know that your loving kindness is better than life…thank you for being my Lord and my God...IN JESUS NAME…AMEN!!!
