Truth for Today
Ezekiel 29:3b “ Behold, I am against you, O Pharaoh king of Egypt…”
I was in a meeting the other day and voiced my opposition to a potential decision by a group of people. I know that my opposition probably didn’t amount to very much…but I had to say, “I am against this decision.”
It is one thing to be against a political decision…but it is very different matter when God is against something. God was very clear, “Behold, I am against you, O Pharaoh king of Egypt.”
God had a beef with His ancient enemy…Egypt. Since the days of Moses Egypt had been enemies to the people of God and to God. They stood in direct opposition to God and His purpose for His people. It was Egypt who oppressed and persecuted God’s people. They were the nation that used deception hoping it would lead to Israel’s downfall. Their continued deceptive alliances would be their own downfall. One of those alliances was Solomon’s marriage to a Egyptian princess that sealed a commercial alliance but in reality led toward religious apostasy.
Well God was now turning attention to Egypt in judgment. They should get the hint when at one point God said, “The Nile is mine…” The truth behind that simple statement is that everything belongs to God…even that great river that made Egypt famous.
Egypt did not want God as their enemy…but too late…it had already happened. His wrath was going too be poured out on them.
What does that mean for us? There are real enemies of the Cross of Christ. There are those who stand in forceful…direct opposition to God and anything to do with God. I just saw where a Pastor was in “hot” water with ACLU because of a veiled reference to Christ in a public prayer. What is going to happen when the enemies around us are told, “I am against you…”?
I know I want to be on God’s side. I don’t want to be on the receiving end of the wrath of an angry God. Through Christ…and faith in Him…we can be sure that we are on the right side. Oh and by the way…it’s the winning side.
O Father…You are strong…You are victorious…I praise YOUR name that we who believe are on the right side…give us strength in face of enemies…give us courage to stand strong in faith and trust in YOU…In Jesus Name…Amen!
