Truth for Today
Jeremiah 26:2 “Thus says the LORD: ‘Stand in the court of the LORD’s house, and speak to all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the LORD’s house, all the words that I command you to speak to them. Do not diminish a word.
Over the years I have been prescribed medication many times. I remember a few of those prescriptions had very clear instructions. I was to take that medicine exactly as listed on the instructions.
God was calling Jeremiah to preach to the cities of Judah and those words that were commanded by God...speak...and...do not diminish a word.
Slowly and subtly we can diminish...make smaller...the Word of God in our life.
We do it through business that breeds neglect. If we are not very careful we can go days...weeks...months...and sadly even years and never read God’s Word. In fact these devotion’s that I attempt to send 5 days a week began some years ago as a need in my life to get into the Word every single day of my life. I was busy with “ministry” one day and realized that it had been days since I READ God’s Word. He broke me, I repented and I don’t want a day to pass that I don’t get into God’s Word.
We can diminish God’s Word through distractions that grow into apathy. So often the “things” of this world distract from the Word of God. They do so because they clash with God’s Word. His Word speaks against MANY of the “things” that we spend a lot of time trying to justify.
We diminish God’s Word through disobedience. Somebody said it this way, “God said it, I believe it, that settles it for me.” But the reality is we say, “God said it, I didn’t like it so I did what I wanted instead.” Disobedience in any form will cause us to not listen more closely and obey what God’s Word tells us to do.
God told Jeremiah, “Do not diminish a word.” He tells us the same thing. We must honor the truth, integrity, character and power of God’s Word and allow it’s living power to work in our life...let’s not be guilty of “diminishing God’s Word”.
Father, Your Word we place in our heart so that we can live in honor of YOU and obey YOU in our walk, our talk, our worship and our witness...help us we pray...In Jesus Name...AMEN!
