Truth for Today
Isaiah 58:10 “10 If you extend your soul to the hungry And satisfy the afflicted soul, Then your light shall dawn in the darkness, And your darkness shall be as the noonday.
We have all seen them…holding their signs…asking for money. No one likes panhandlers. How many of us wish out loud that what they were doing was illegal? But…is it possible that we are missing and opportunity?
Isaiah challenged the people of God, “you extend your soul to the hungry And satisfy the afflicted soul, Then your light shall dawn in the darkness, And your darkness shall be as the noonday.” Their righteousness had not been shining. To feed the hungry and help those who are afflicted would bring light in the darkness of life.
I read recently where the homeless in a California town were angry with McDonalds because they raise the price of their $1 menu. Now before we laugh at them let’s each off the $1 menu for one week. See how little food they are getting for that one dollar. You would be angry as well.
Here is a truth that is inescapable. There is someone in your world that is hungry. They are not eating well today. They didn’t eat well yesterday. They put a smile on their face at work. They acted as if everything is alright but their cupboard is bare in their home. They work and work and work but can never seem to get ahead.
CHURCH…today we need to hear God call to feed the hungry, “If you extend your soul to the hungry And satisfy the afflicted soul, Then your light shall dawn in the darkness, And your darkness shall be as the noonday.”
Father, open our eyes, our ears, our hearts and help us to move alongside the hungry. Cause us who have plenty to give to those who have nothing. May we shine with love for those who hurt…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
