Truth for Today
Lamentations 4:1 How the gold has become dim! How changed the fine gold! The stones of the sanctuary are scattered at the head of every street.
One of the saddest moments of my life was to visit a church I had attended early in ministry. It was a little church just outside of Clarksdale, MS. It had been a warm little fellowship of people…but I knew they had had their struggles. When I visited I almost wept as I saw chains on the door and plywood over the windows. What is so heartbreaking is that it didn’t have to be that way. Internal strife in the church had ultimately resulted in disbanding of the group and they went their separate ways.
The glory of Israel had faded. It had faded because of spiritual problems, political oppression and a lack of remorse that leads to repentance. What was a glorious place was now less than what it should be. It’s always that way when spiritual failure is involved.
However, there is hope. The gold doesn’t have to fade. The glory doesn’t have to be diminished. The doors of our church don’t have to be chained shut. The windows don’t have to be boarded up. The body of Christ doesn’t have to go their separate ways. It doesn’t have to be if we would REMEMBER whose we are and who we are…children of loving God. REPENT of what is getting in the way of our relationship with God and our relationship with each other. And then RETURN our hearts and devotion back to Christ.
The gold doesn’t have to fade, the stones don’t have to be scattered. It happens when we continually make the wrong decisions and dishonor God.
Father, help me not to allow my gold to become dim and my stones to be scattered. Search my heart and show me the change I need to make so that I can honor you in word and in deed…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
