Truth for Today
Ezekiel 3:17-19 17 “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore hear a word from My mouth, and give them warning from Me: 18 When I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life, that same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand. 19 Yet, if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul.
Every US Navy ship at sea this very moment has a very important group of people manning their post. They are those who stand watches at critical stations around the ship. Some watching radars…while some monitor radio traffic…and others look across the horizon all of them looking for anything of danger to the ship and her crew.
Ezekiel received his task from God. He was appointed a watchman over Israel. His job, warn the people of their impending death. His warning could save their life…but only if they listened and heeded his voice.
It is interesting that people would ignore warning about their impending death. But it happens every day. Every pack of cigarettes’ has warning, “Smoking may be hazardous to your health.” But every day someone is diagnosed with lung cancer caused by smoking. Consider the repeated warnings that eating fatty foods can raise our cholesterol…yet oh how much I love my fried chicken.
Smoking, fried chicken or anything else that can harm our health is one thing. A rebellious lifestyle against God…well…that is downright fatal. God simply wanted His people repent and trust Him…but they wouldn’t.
I want us to hear the warning of watchman and turn our hearts toward the Father Who has loved us with a great love…a love that calls us to a place of mercy, grace and hope. Let’s heed HIS warning!
Father, I hear You warn me through Your Word…search my heart and show me the change I need to make so that I can honor you in word and in deed…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
