Ezekiel 8:17b “…is it a trivial thing to the house of Judah to commit the abominations which they commit here?”
As a grandparent I have noticed something peculiar. My grandsons can do something that is wrong and I have a tendency to laugh at what they do discounting it as nothing. It drives my son and daughter crazy because they claim that they never got by with doing the same things. And, they have a point. Wrong is wrong no matter how we look at it.
Ezekiel had been given an incredible vision in chapter 8. He saw the supposed secrets of those whose obligation was to be faithful to God. He saw what God saw. He was asked, “…Is it a trivial thing to the house of Judah to commit the abominations which they commit here?” The answer is very clear…sin is not trivial. Idolatry is not trivial. Disobedience is not trivial and it was about to invoke the wrath of an angry God.
There is a challenge for us in this passage. We must never trivialize our sin. The Father knows our sin. We can’t hide it from Him no matter how much we try. Then we only have one choice…we must, “Confess our sins because He is faithful and just and will forgive our sins.” We must repent and turn away from our disobedience and commit to a holy walk with our Lord. When should we do this? NOW!
Father, you know our hearts. You see all the hidden parts. You feel all the pain and hurt. You my Lord know me so well that I can’t hide one thing from you. Forgive my sin and cleanse me in the hidden parts of my life…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
