THE WORD FOR TODAY
Judges 10:14 14 Go and cry out to the gods which you have chosen; let them deliver you in your time of distress.
Some of you may have seen the movie, “Castaway”, with Tom Hanks. Stranded alone on an island with no one to talk to except Wilson, a soccer ball proved to be his only surviving companion. More than one movie goer chuckled as Tom would yell out for Wilson and even risked his life to keep Wilson safe. But Tom did all the talking…Wilson never talked back to him.
The gods the people of GOD had chosen where not talking to them. They were not delivering them from oppression. They were not providing help in the times of distress. And God challenged the people, “Go and cry out to the gods which you have chosen; let them deliver you in your times of distress.”
Why do we choose inanimate, silent, and ridiculous object for our object of worship? How can a set of golf clubs, a rifle, a sewing machine, a motorcycle, a horse or anything for that matter become more important to us than God? When I figure that one out…I will write a book.
It isn’t these item’s fault…it is our fault when we choose something other than God. The blame is with me when I lay aside the “word of life” to focus on something that is not going to bring life and hope to me.
There is only ONE God who delivers. There is only ONE God who cares. There only ONE God who knows our needs before we ever utter them out loud. There is only PERSON who knows the deepest parts of our life…and HE deserves our complete devotion.
O God You are my God…I need You every day of my life…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
