THE WORD FOR TODAY
1 24 From the children of Gad, their genealogies by their families, by their fathers’ house, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and above, all who were able to go to war:
I remember the FULL day of activities when I took my physical for joining the United States Navy. I was poked, prodded quizzed for a full day. At the end of the day I was pronounced, “fit for duty”.
Eleven Tribes of Israel numbered their people and the completion of that task they found how many were, “…from twenty years old and above, all who were able to go to war.” Only the tribe of Levi was exempt from the census to number the fighting men. History records that these men “able to go to war” would indeed be mighty warriors for God.
This very moment our nation is a being defended by those who are “able to go to war”. Our men and women are serving our nation and the cause of freedom in incredible ways. I was privileged to serve those young men and women for 17 years, deploying on the seas and on the land with them. I understand the sacrifice they are making and are willing to make for the freedom I enjoy in just typing this devotion.
I pray that we never take for granted our freedom and that we pray for those who protect our freedom. Pray that God protect them from harm. Pray that God be with their families and loved ones in their absence. Pray that when their mission is complete and they return HOME…they come home to a grateful nation for the price they have paid for our freedom.
Just a personal note…there is a large number of folk on this devotion list who are serving on Active Duty right now. Thank you for being able to go to war…thank you for serving our nation…and especially our God.
Lord Jesus, thank YOU so much for our freedom to worship and work for YOU…freedom that YOU bless as You protect our men and women in the Armed Forces…be with them…protect them…In Jesus Name...AMEN!!!
