THE WORD FOR TODAY
1 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: 2 “Speak to the children of Israel, that they bring Me an offering. From everyone who gives it willingly with his heart you shall take My offering. 3 And this is the offering which you shall take from them: gold, silver, and bronze; 4 blue, purple, and scarlet thread, fine linen, and goats’ hair; 5 ram skins dyed red, badger skins, and acacia wood; 6 oil for the light, and spices for the anointing oil and for the sweet incense; 7 onyx stones, and stones to be set in the ephod and in the breastplate. 8 And let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them. 9 According to all that I show you, that is, the pattern of the tabernacle and the pattern of all its furnishings, just so you shall make it.
A community with God at its center is being formed. They have been receiving critical Biblical information about living in community. The Ten Commandments, the Law of God would their guide and obedience was expected.
Now the people of God are instructed to build the Tabernacle and its Furnishings. The people had a critical part. They were to bring offerings of gold, silver, bronze; blue, purple and scarlet thread; fine linen and goat’s hair; ram skin dyed red, badger skins, and acacia wood; oil for the light, and spices for the anointing oil and for the sweet incense; onyz stones, and stone to set in the ephod and in the breastplate…and let them make ME a sanctuary.
The people’s role would be very important in the building of the Tabernacle and its furnishings. Their offerings brought to the LORD would be critical to the completion of the Tabernacle. Don’t miss that they were to bring their offering…”willingly with his heart”.
There is a great lesson here. When we as God’s people “willingly with our heart” bring our gifts to the Father we enable great works of ministry to be accomplished in His name. I pray that we all be “willing” to give to God with glad and sincere hearts. Our gift may be small…but with right heart it is huge. Our offering may be large but with wrong heart it is no offering whatsoever.
So let us give large and small…willingly with our heart!
Lord, You have laid a ministry before us…help us generously and faithfully support the ministry You have set before us…may we give willingly with our heart…a heart in love with You…In Jesus Name...AMEN!!!
