THE WORD FOR TODAY
BibleGateway.com - Passage Lookup: Exodus 25-27
“And there I will meet with you, and I will speak with you from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim which are on the ark of the testimony, about everything I will give you in commandment to the children of Israel.”
The People’s Court, Judge Judy, Judge Brown…and more conduct “real” court cases broadcast nationally. They sit in their seat…the judgment seat…often times with mockery and ridicule toward either party. That really saddens me because it teaches you and I to sit in the judgment seat when it comes to our relationship with others. God teaches a better way.
God was giving to Moses a place to meet. He instructed Moses to put the mercy seat on top of the ark. From above that position God would meet with him
The Mercy Seat was on top of the lid of the Ark of Covenant. It was described by Martin Luther in his German Bible as the mercy seat because the Lord “sat” enthroned over it in mercy, invisibly present where the wingtips of two cherubim met above it, guarding the divine presence.
God is a righteous judge. I believe that He judges His people from a position of Mercy and not a position of wrath. Think about it…if we truly got what our sins deserved…it’s more than I can comprehend.
Jesus modeled touching peoples lives from a position of mercy. He met Zaccheus from a position of mercy and went to his house to eat with him. He spoke to the woman at the well with great mercy…a woman whose sin was great…but He forgave her. He promised a thief paradise as He Himself was dying…all in mercy.
Come freely into His presence and KNOW that you will receive His mercy as you humble yourself before Him.
Father, we live before Your Mercy…we need Your Mercy…grant Your Mercy…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
