THE WORD FOR TODAY
2 And you shall make holy garments for Aaron your brother, for glory and for beauty.
In Christian homes across this land, every Sunday, there are arguments that can border on the hilarious. What do I wear to worship today? So it begs the question, “Does God care about what we wear to worship on Sunday?”
There are many arguments for and against “dressing up” for worship. Some argue that you should just be comfortable and so some preachers hit the pulpit in jeans and shirts not tucked in. Other’s dress a little bit more relaxed with slacks and a polo shirt. Still others wear their very best outfit to church.
In the text today we find that God directed…didn’t recommend…but directed the making of “holy garments” for Aaron as he carried out his priestly duties. These garments were elaborate, beautiful and distinctly set the priests apart from the people.
So we come back to that all important question, “Should I dress up for worship this Sunday?”
I never tell anyone what they should and shouldn’t wear to church. But I am going to wear my very best. It begins with my heart. I want to wear my very best heart. A heart in love with HIM and that love shows in how I live my life for HIM. I want to wear a heart that grieves when I sin against Him. Then my clothing should reflect my heart for God. After all what good is wearing my “very best” for God and yet I fail to confess my failures and my sin? Clean clothes over a dirty soul don’t show a heart for God.
So maybe our goal should be our VERY BEST for God…our best heart and our best clothes.
Lord, may my life reflect the glory of Your presence in my heart…In Jesus Name...AMEN!!!
