THE WORD FOR TODAY
BibleGateway.com - Passage Lookup: Exodus 34-36
Exodus 34:30 “So when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, Behold, the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him.”
My grandsons spent a few weeks with us during the summer. They joined me in the backyard one afternoon while I was doing to some yard work. Their Nana, what they call my wife, was in the house so it was just the boys and me. They had plenty of supervision. So I can’t understand how it was that when my wife came outside she made a big deal about them being dirty.
They were seriously dirty; faces, hands, clothes…it was clear they had been outside on a hot dusty delta day.
Moses had been with God on the mountain. While with Him he didn’t that skin of his face was glowing. When he rejoined the children of Israel the Bible says that they were afraid to come near him because his face glowed.
I believe we wear the sting and guilt and shame of our sin on our face, through our body and in all that we do. We try to hide with a smile and pass it away as a bad day…but dirt is dirt and it shows in our life.
I also believe that we can reflect His glory on our face. We don’t have to be stained with guilt and shame but rather we can be cleansed by the blood of the Lamb that takes away the sins of the world. Our faces will reflect that cleansing. Our lives will show for His glory and His presence in my life.
I am humbled to think what could be if I lived in His glory all week and brought that glory into the presence of God’s people on Sunday morning. I want that to happen. I want to be in His presence throughout my day…pray for me toward that end.
And by the way…let’s never be afraid of being with someone who reflects to the glory of His presence.
Father, remove the stains of life in the world and help us live in your presence…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
