Truth for Today
Zechariah 1:6 Yet surely My words and My statutes, which I commanded My servants the prophets, did they not overtake your fathers?
My cousin, Roger, got a speeding ticket one day. We all laughed at him. Roger looked at me and said, “Flemings (the cop) said that you were next.”
Now I had a reputation for being a speedster. The stretch of highway 82 from Billups Plantation to Indianola, MS was my personal raceway so I knew what Roger was talking about. I said, “Naw, he’ll never catch me.” One week later I hit my personal stretch of raceway in my 1972 Chevy Malibu with a 350 V8 with pedal to the medal. I looked up and saw the blue light flashing. Before it was over, Mr. Fleming, the highway patrol, cited me for going 100 miles an hour. I should have listened to my cousin.
The captives in Zechariah’s day needed to listen to God. They needed to return to Him and trust Him. They needed to learn a lesson that their fathers did not learn…you cannot escape the Word of God. There is a promise in scripture that His word will not come back void but will accomplish its purpose. God was going to deal with His people and they needed to understand that.
Even so with us, the warnings surround us, the good lessons from bad examples are everywhere...but will we listen? We come to God’s word and feel it touch our heart with conviction but do we then return to the Father and seek His forgiveness? We enter the sanctuary to praise, worship and receive His world but do we apply that truth in our home and in our work and in our life?
As we enter the raceway of life…we discover really quickly that His word is inescapable!
Father, around every corner, down every street and in every room of my life your Word calls me to walk steady with You and be faithful to YOU…grant me strength to walk with you each day and trust you with my life...IN JESUS NAME…AMEN!!!
