THE WORD FOR TODAY
Galatians 1-3 (Click to Read Today’s Word at Biblegateway.com)
Truth for Today
Galatians 1:10 10 For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.
Sometimes when I am writing these devotions I feel a bit of fear. That anxiety is often associated with the message that I feel God is giving me. How will what I write be received? Will someone reply to my email and tell me to remove them from the list because I had written something that offended them? But then I remember HIS call upon my life and that I have a great responsibility to be faithful in the preaching, teaching, sharing and living of God’s Word.
Paul’s mission in life wasn’t to please men. As you read many of his letters you can feel the tension between him and some of his opponents. He knew the tension between serving God and ministering to people.
People are often times really fickle. For all of his popularity following 9-11 George Bush LOST a lot of public support in the years that followed. He had to make agonizing decisions. And on this Memorial Day we must remember that those decisions resulted in the sacrifice for freedom of our husbands, fathers, mothers, sons and daughters. And yet how the public tide turned against Him in burning rage…oh how short our memories. We should be grateful that he was a president that didn’t serve to the public of opinions of fickle people and that we have not been attacked since September 11, 2001.
In our service to Christ we must never forget that our greater obligation is to HIM and not to the public. We can never water down our message so that it becomes more “publicly acceptable”. In fact the gospel of Jesus Christ will be rejected by MANY. Sure folks will accept a “watered down” version that removes the idea of sin…because that doesn’t hurt the heart. But we need the heart to hurt so that we repent and turn to HIM who can heal any hurting heart.
So…I will not be anxious how man receives this “Word for Today”. I will be as faithful as I know how to the principle and truth of God’s Word. The world we live in needs TRUTH…not watered down theology and a feel good message that does nothing for the soul.
Father, may I be found FAITHFUL to Your Word in all that I say and do…In Jesus Name…Amen!!!
