THE WORD FOR TODAY
BibleGateway.com - Passage Lookup: Exodus 13-15
“So it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel, Thus it was a cloud and darkness to the one, and it gave light by night to the other, so that the one did not come near the other all that night.”
I always liked those comic strips that showed a little fellow facing a big bully, and telling the big bully that he was going to pulverize him if he stepped across the line. As you looked at the first strip you could see the outline of a shadow played over the little fellow and the big bully. In the next strip you could see where that shadow was coming from. There behind the little fellow towered his big brother.
Israel was in danger. The Egyptians were in hot pursuit. In fact they had almost caught them. For Israel the enemy was so close that a shadow (cloud) was hiding them from the Egyptians. Much is made of the parting of the Red Sea. It was a fantastic way to protect God’s people. But let’s not miss the miracle of the cloud…darkness to the one and light by the night to the other. In simple terms, the Egyptians were in darkness and Israel was in daylight.
There is a great song that has these words, “My God is near me all the time, my God is near me all the time.”
I am so grateful for His protection. I am glad that with Him behind us and around us and over us that we can say to satan, “Get away from me.” I am thrilled that I can cling to the promise that HE will never leave us nor forsake us…aren’t you?
Father, encamp around your children this day. Lord, protect us from the evil around and grant us strength and courage to face the bully of this life with your power and protection…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
