THE WORD FOR TODAY
BibleGateway.com - Passage Lookup: Exodus 16-18
12 But Moses’ hands became heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
I want you to try something…lift your arms above your heads for as long as you can stand it…that’s right…for as long as you can stand it. I can assure that after 5 minutes…if I make it 5 minutes I would be very surprised…my arms would feel like lead weights.
I love this story Exodus chapter 17. The people of God were battling the Amalek. When Moses’ hands were lifted the Israelites won…but when Moses’ arms went down Israel would begin to lose the battle. So Aaron and Hur placed a stone for Moses to sit on and then they held his arms up so that Israel could prevail.
The wisdom write in Ecclesiastes says, “Two are better than one…a cord of three strands is not easily broken.” The cotton patch interpretation, “We need each other…” We do need each other…we can’t go it alone. I thank God for those who have come alongside me over the years and helped me in the “work of ministry”.
How can we help each other?
We help each other with our…PRAYERS. To know that so many of you are praying for me is a tremendous encouragement. Ask any Pastor and you hear tremendous gratitude for the prayers of the saints.
We help each other with our…ASSISTANCE. Sometime I need someone to pick up the other end of the box. Often I am not strong enough lift the box by myself. Other times the box is just too big. I remember a deacon who drove me to the doctor for a post operative visit when my wife couldn’t and I had no one else to help. That assistance was a great source of help and encouragement for me.
We help each other with…ENCOURAGEMENT. I can’t count the number of times over these 27 years of ministry that individual believers have encouraged me. That encouragement has helped me keep my nose to the grind stone.
Lord, I pray for my brothers and sisters who are engaged in battles all over this country…I pray for those who stand for life in Crisis Pregnancy Centers all across this country…I pray for those Preachers who are boldly proclaiming gospel of Jesus Christ…I pray for school administrator who do not back down from their faith in You and pray regardless…I pray that we will never neglect our opportunity to help our spiritual warriors who are in the heat of the battle...AMEN!!!
