THE WORD FOR TODAY
BibleGateway.com - Passage Lookup: Exodus 19-21
7 “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
His Name is Holy…He is majestic…His name is life to all who believe…HIS NAME…should never ever be taken in vain.
The 3rd Commandment, “You shall not take the name of the LORD you God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes HIS name in vain.”
We often think of using God’s name in vain as using a ‘curse word’ and it is. But using God’s name in vain is not just using His name in a curse word it is also misusing HIS name in day to day conversations. It is emptily throwing His name around as if it’s His name that will prove a point. Statements such as, “As God is my witness…” is a simple example of taking His name in vain.
We can avoid taking God’s name in vain when we take to some simple steps…
We must completely understand that HE is Holy and therefore our language about Him…at Him…for HIM should reflect HIS Holiness and Majesty.
We must recognize the consequences of flagrantly using HIS name in vain. Listen to scripture, “…for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who take HIS name in vain.”
We must set a guard over our mouth. Watch what we say because someONE is listening…HE is listening. He’s got us on tape. He’s got us on record.
We must commit to HONORING Him with all we say and all we do. We must say, “If it doesn’t HONOR Him, I will not say it.”
Lord, YOU are Holy, Majestic and Worthy of the best from our lips…may we honor YOU in all we say this day…forgive us when we have misused YOUR Holy Name…In Jesus Name...AMEN!!!
