Psalm 142:5 5 I cried out to You, O LORD: I said, “You are my refuge, My portion in the land of the living.
I feel like I am surrounded by hurting people. One day a couple of weeks ago I encountered 9 different people in one day with incredible crisis happening in their life. Add to that the sermon and the worship service planning wasn’t going very well. By days end I felt and I knew and I know that I am surrounded by hurting people. Those hurting people are surrounded by circumstances that are trying their best to drown them. You might say we are all hurting…AMEN!
The Psalmist understood the pain of life. He was surrounded by trouble. He was hounded by trouble makers. At times it was overwhelming for him. Then he cried out, “O LORD: I said, “You are my refuge, My portion in the land of the living.” The Psalmist was able to deal with all those TROUBLES because he had the RIGHT REFUGE…the LORD.
The Right Refuge is an opportunity to RETREAT. From time to time we have to retreat from engaging the enemy…the problem…the trouble. We can’t just step back but step away in the right direction. The LORD is our refuge to which we can retreat. I retreated to HIM this morning in prayer. When the battle is heavy I am learning to retreat to the only ONE Who can help…THE LORD.
The Right Refuge is an opportunity for RELIEF. Not sure about you but I am allergic to pain. I don’t like pain…never have…never will. I thank God that HE has provided me more relief from the pains of life than I could ever imagine. He has provided relief from physical pain, emotional pain, spiritual pain and social pain. He never turns away when I retreat to HIM for relief.
The Right Refuge is an opportunity for REPAIR. Each year Navy ships pull into “dry dock” for critical repairs. They retreat from life at sea. They get relief from the demands of deployment. The ship gets the repairs she needs. God is really good a repairing a broken heart. God’s specialty is healing the fractures of failure. God’s knowledge of what is best for our life equal to none. So why not retreat in relief for repair from HIM?
Father, YOU are my refuge…I want You and I need YOU…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
