THE WORD FOR TODAY
Esther 4-6 (Click to read Today’s Word)
Esther 4:16 16 “Go, gather all the Jews who are present in Shushan, and fast for me; neither eat nor drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will fast likewise. And so I will go to the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish!”
William Wallace is a Scottish rebel who leads an uprising against the cruel English ruler Edward the Longshanks, who wishes to inherit the crown of Scotland for himself. When he was a young boy, William Wallace's father and brother, along with many others, lost their lives trying to free Scotland. Once he loses another of his loved ones, William Wallace begins his long quest to make Scotland free once and for all, along with the assistance of Robert the Bruce. Mel Gibson portrayed William Wallace in the movies, Braveheart.
Esther displays all the character and integrity of one with a BRAVEHEART. Esther had been chosen as Queen for King Ahasuerus who had dethroned Queen Vashti because of her refusal to come to him when he was drunk. Now Esther was in a trusted place and her people the Jews are in trouble. Haman was plotting to kill all the Jews and at that moment there was only one person who could intervene…Esther. But she faced some obstacles. One was the law…no one could come to the King…even the Queen…who has not been called. The other was her fear of death…she could have been killed. Faced with certain death for her fellow Jews she decided to break the royal and said, “If I perish, I perish!”
What if you were Esther? What would you do if you were faced with same circumstances? Would you break the “royal law” to try to help your people? Would your attitude be, “If I perish, I perish!”?” We have never needed more “brave hearted people” like we do today. In the face of growing hostility toward believers as displayed by the ACLU with Santa Rosa School district when they forced a “criminalization of prayer” aimed at students and staff, we must be bold…we must be brave. We must declare the words of the Apostle Paul, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ!” Roman 1:16
Father, we are Your servants. Use us to bring glory to Your name and to touch others with YOUR great love. Fill us so that we may be strong and courageous for YOU…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
