THE WORD FOR TODAY
Esther 7-10 (Click to read Today’s Word)
Esther 10:3 3 For Mordecai the Jew was second to King Ahasuerus, and was great among the Jews and well received by the multitude of his brethren, seeking the good of his people and speaking peace to all his countrymen.
A burglar broke into a house one night. He shined his flashlight around, looking for valuables, and when he picked up a CD player to place in his sack, a strange, disembodied voice echoed from the dark saying, "Jesus is watching you." He nearly jumped out of his skin, clicked his flashlight off, and froze. When he heard nothing more after a bit, he shook his head, promised himself a vacation after the next big score, then clicked the light on and began searching for more valuables.
Just as he pulled the stereo out so he could disconnect the wires, clear as a bell he heard, "Jesus is watching you." Freaked out, he shined his light around frantically, looking for the source of the voice. Finally, in the corner of the room, his flashlight beam came to rest on a parrot. Did you say that?" he hissed at the parrot.
"Yep," the parrot confessed, then squawked, "I'm just trying to warn you." The burglar relaxed. "Warn me, huh? Who in the world are you?" "Moses," replied the bird. "Moses?" the burglar laughed.. "What kind of people would name a bird Moses?" The kind of people that would name a Rottweiler Jesus."
God was watching over the Jews over the petite shoulders of Queen Esther. She confessed to the King that her people Jews were about to be killed. He had Haman hanged for his evil actions. Then he ordered an edict reversing the authority to kill all the Jews. God was truly watching over Israel. In our text Mordecai goes from the most wanted list to second only to the king in the kingdom. His reputation and work among the Jews was good and he spoke peace to all his countrymen. God watched over His people.
I hope that encourages you today. There isn’t a hair on your head or falling off your head that God doesn’t know about. He is skilled at directing life circumstances to protect and guard HIS people. He watches over us with eyes that see beyond the horizon. We could never hold the whole horizon in our view but God…well now He created the horizon. I was reading in my evening scripture last night and just couldn’t miss Psalm 55:22, “Cast your burden on the Lord, and HE will sustain you; He will never permit the righteous to be moved.” (ESV)
Father, just as You protected Your people the Jews, You protect us. You will never permit the righteous to be moved, You know our going in and our going out, we need YOU…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
