THE WORD FOR TODAY
Job 19-21 (Click to read Today’s Word)
Job 2:14 14 My relatives have failed, And my close friends have forgotten me.
During my Navy days I served as Brig Chaplain in a couple of duty stations. My weekly schedule included visits to the prisoners. The most difficult place to visit was Sailors or Marines in solitary confinement. I would always leave heartbroken about their plight in life. Solitude is a lonely place. Sure there are times when it’s good to be alone. But the moments when our heart is being torn from our chest is when we need the company of people who care.
Job was in a solitary confinement. Family had failed him and friends had forgotten him. His suffering was terrible and those who could help ease the burden were no where to be found.
By the way it is possible to be in “solitary confinement” with a house full of family and friends. It is so easy to allow the pain of life to cause us to shut down so that we don’t allow someone to help and strengthen us.
Do you know someone who may feel forgotten today? Is there a “friend” you have neglected because of busyness? Is there a family member who has been left alone in the midst of suffering? What would a visit…a phone call…a letter…do for them? It just might brighten their day.
Father, move our hands…our feet…our words…our heart to the side of those we love…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
