THE WORD FOR TODAY
1 Kings 4-6
1 Kings 4-6
1 Kings 5:4 4 But now the LORD my God has given me rest on every side; there is neither adversary nor evil occurrence.
Newspaper headlines across this nation report everyday on something terrible happening in their particular community. Even in our little community the first news story is about something really bad. It would be nice to have a headline read, “THE WORLD AWAKES TO REST ON EVERY SIDE”.
Solomon said, “Now the LORD my God given me rest on every side; there is neither adversary nor evil occurrence.” During this time of peace he began the process to build the House of God…The Temple. He was able to do that because God had given “rest on every side”.
I pray for you to have rest on every side today. Will you pray for me to have rest on every side as I pray the same for you?
Everyday our lives are bombarded with crisis, conflict, fear, worries, anxieties, bill collectors, arguments, fights and feuds. And then we come home bringing all those things into the house. That “restful” place quickly becomes filled with everything we brought in.
I don’t know about you but sometimes the demands and pressures of everyday life feel like a giant vise that ever tightening on my head. It’s hard to get any rest when the vise is tightening up bit by bit.
When I try to understand all of this it becomes too much so I do the only thing I know to do. I turn the handle of that vise counter clockwise and release everything to the LORD. When I am surrounded on every side, before I am surrounded on every side I do what scripture tells me to do, “I cast all my cares upon HIM!”
Father, we are hard pressed on every side with every kind of thing known to man. We need YOUR rest and YOUR power. We can’t do anything in this life without YOU…help us O LORD…in Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
