THE WORD FOR TODAY
1 Kings 7-9
1 Kings 7-9
1 Kings 8:38 38 whatever prayer, whatever supplication is made by anyone, or by all Your people Israel, when each one knows the plague of his own heart, and spreads out his hands toward this temple:
Can you imagine going to the Doctor and when asked, “What can I help you with today?” You say, “Well Doc I am not sure…I don’t really know why I am here.” No, when we go to the Doctor we generally know the reason that we went to the Doctor. The same is true when we turn our hearts toward the master physician.
Solomon is praying his dedication prayer for the temple. During that prayer he speaks to the individual prayers that may be prayed in the temple. He then says, “When each one knows the plague of own heart, and spreads out his hands toward this temple.”
I immediately think of 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins HE is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” When we know the plague of our heart and then in confession spread our hands and our heart to the Father He will always hear and He is faithful to forgive us from all unrighteousness.
Plagues of the heart are impossible to carry without ill affect on our life. We can’t be silent about our sin without feeling the consequences. I am so thankful that God has made a way for us to live and walk free of the burden of our transgression. And of course we know that way JESUS our redeemer and friend.
Lord when our heart is plagued and we cry to You, please hear our cry and answer with your grace…in Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
