Truth for Today
Philippians 3:13-14 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
The past can be paralyzing. It has the power to freeze us in place hindering any progress in our life. The past doesn’t have to be just our failures…it can and often does include the past successes. The past is this constant reminder in our ear and heart of “what used to be” and “never will be again”. The past is mingled with “truth” and “laced with lies”. The truth is we did make a mistake but lie is that we are worthless in service to the kingdom of God. Just look to the human heroes of scripture and learn how God changed their life for HIS glory.
Paul gives us a great perspective on dealing with the past…”forget it” he says, “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
Now I know pop psychologists and the Dr. Phil’s of the world would tell us that forgetting the past is impossible. And on a certain level they are correct. I believe that Paul is challenging us with this truth; We cannot press on for the goal of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus if we are paralyzed in place by the past.
So…if there is failure in the past…learn from it and do HIS will now and in the future.
If there is great success in the past…leave it behind, grow from it and do even greater work for the kingdom of God.
If there is pain in the past…move to the HEALING that only comes through the power of Jesus Christ…come boldly into His throne room and lay it on the cross. God’s cure for a “painful past” is “pressing on with heavenly focus on our heavenly home”.
If there is JOY in the past…rejoice and press on.
In short…PRESS ON Believer…PRESS ON!
Father, help me press on Lord…help me…In Jesus Name…Amen!!!
