Word of the Day
THE WORD FOR TODAY
Judges 13:1 1 Again the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and the LORD delivered them into the hand of the Philistines for forty years.
“Again the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD…”
This seems to be a repetitive cycle for them. Over and over again they rebel against God. He delivers them into the hands of an oppressor as punishment. They cry out to Him and He delivers them. Then…AGAIN…they do evil in His sight.
Why do we repeat sins that we know grieve the heart of God? Why do we repeat the evil of yesterday…again…again…again? Why do we suffer from the annoying habits that we just can’t seem to defeat? Why do live under the burden of that habitual sin that is trying it’s very best to destroy our faith and our joy in Christ? Why are we victim to “AGAIN”?
The Apostle Paul said in Romans 7:15-19, “15I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing.” In simple terms he is saying, “What I want to do I don’t do and what I hate to do is what I do.” But then in verse 25 he says that Jesus will rescue this body of death.
Listen…we are in a war with the very pits of hell. The devil is seeking to destroy everything in us and around us. He is using temptation, pride, selfishness and more in his battle with us. He is doing his very best to make us victim’s of “again”.
So what is our hope if we constantly do the same things again…again…again…again? Our hope is in CHRIST! Only Jesus through His grace can deliver us from the sin that so easily besets us. Only Jesus can forgive and cleanse and wash us whole. Only Jesus can deliver us from the death of sin. And through Christ we can gain the strength to win the battles one temptation at a time. “Again” doesn’t have to be a word we suffer nearly as much with Jesus in us because greater is HE that is in us than he that is in the world.
Lord, I suffer from “agains”. It seems that no matter how much I try I repeated do the things You don’t like. Cover me with Your grace and call me to Yourself so that I don’t have do those things again…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
